About CJAM
The Canadian Journal for the Academic Mind is a student-run/student-focused, non-profit, interdisciplinary, open-access research publication dedicated to bringing together the best and brightest minds from across the world to share their ideas and research.
We believe, support, and encourage the use of open-access publishing and the accessibility of academic material to the public.
CJAM does not charge a fee for any of its services, including article processing, submission, and viewing. We are committed to providing a platform for students to showcase their research findings and to discuss and debate the changing landscape of our world.
Position Overview
CJAM is seeking dedicated and detail-oriented editors to join our dynamic Editorial Board for an initial one-year term. As an Editor, you will be a key contributor to the publication process, ensuring that articles meet high academic standards, and collaborating with authors and peer reviewers to elevate the quality of research published by the journal. This position provides an excellent opportunity for those interested in the academic publishing process, fostering intellectual dialogue, and shaping the future of interdisciplinary research.
Key Responsibilities
As an Editor, you will:
- Oversee the editorial workflow for at least two (2) articles per issue.
- Review and evaluate submissions for quality, originality, and relevance.
- Identify and coordinate peer reviewers.
- Provide constructive feedback to authors
- Recommend acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts.
- Perform copyediting on at least two (2) articles per issue, ensuring adherence to journal standards (Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition).
- Contribute to the development and refinement of editorial policies and guidelines.
- Collaborate on strategic initiatives to enhance the journal’s impact and visibility.
- Lead outreach and promotional efforts on campus and across academic communities.
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
- Strong academic background, preferably at the graduate level or above.
- Excellent command of English, with proven editing and writing skills.
- Familiarity with academic publishing processes is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
- Interest in academic research and publishing.
Compensation
This is a volunteer position. Approved expenses related to your editorial work (e.g., travel or administrative services) may be reimbursed according to the journal's annual budget.
